# Connect Stanza to ChatGPT

> Add Stanza to ChatGPT to read your Context, create drafts, and edit articles beside the conversation.

You'll need ChatGPT on the web with an account or workspace that allows custom MCP
servers, and a Stanza account with access to your project. The Stanza editor panel also
depends on ChatGPT extensions being available for your account; see
[OpenAI's extension guide](https://developers.openai.com/plugins/build/extensions).

## Add Stanza

1. Open [Plugins](https://chatgpt.com/plugins).
2. Select **+ → Add custom MCP server**.
3. Enter these details:

   | Field | Value |
   | --- | --- |
   | Name | `Stanza` |
   | Description | `Read brand context, create drafts, and edit Stanza articles.` |
   | Connection | Public HTTPS endpoint |
   | MCP server URL | `https://app.runstanza.com/api/mcp` |
   | Authentication | OAuth |

4. If asked how ChatGPT should identify itself, use the detected **CIMD** client
identity. You don't need a client ID or secret.
5. Read ChatGPT's connection warning, select **I understand and want to continue**, then
**Create as a plugin**, and install it.
6. Start a new chat, type **@**, and select **Stanza** from the suggestions.
7. Ask Stanza to list your projects. When asked, sign in on `app.runstanza.com`, review
   the permissions, and select **Allow**.

See [OpenAI's MCP connection guide](https://developers.openai.com/plugins/deploy/connect-chatgpt)
for more on these steps.

### If your workspace shows Apps instead

Some workspaces put custom MCP setup under **Settings → Apps → Create**, or
**Workspace settings → Apps → Create** for administrators. Enter the same details, select
**Scan Tools**, sign in to Stanza, then select **Create**. Your administrator may need to
turn on custom apps first. See
[OpenAI's workspace setup guide](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12584461-developer-mode-and-mcp-apps-in-chatgpt).

## Check the connection

With Stanza selected in a chat, ask:

> Use Stanza to list the projects I can access.

Then replace "Acme" with your project's name:

> Use the Acme project in Stanza. Read our voice page and product references, then draft
> a short product introduction. Show the references you used.

When you're ready, ask ChatGPT to save the draft to your project, then open the link it
returns.

## Write beside the conversation

Open Stanza from ChatGPT's sidebar, or ask:

> Open my Acme writing workspace in Stanza.

Stanza opens to your project's articles. Choose one, or select **New draft**. If you
belong to more than one project, switch from the project name beside **Articles**.

You can type in the article directly. To have ChatGPT change part of it, select the
passage. The panel shows **Selection shared with chat**; then ask for the change in
ChatGPT's message box:

> Rewrite this in our voice. Keep the rest of the article unchanged.

The panel edits the same live article your team sees in Stanza, and changes save
automatically. Choose **Open in Stanza** to open it in the full app. To add new image
files, use the full Stanza editor.

If the panel can't connect, choose **Retry connection**. If a save fails, keep the panel
open and choose **Retry save**.

## Reconnecting

If saving or editing is refused, reconnect and allow every permission Stanza asks for.
Older connections don't gain new permissions on their own. If ChatGPT keeps asking you to
sign in, reconnect once and allow **Stay connected without asking you to sign in again**.

After Stanza adds new tools, refresh the plugin's tools in ChatGPT and start a new chat.

For anything else, see [troubleshooting](/integrations/mcp#troubleshooting).
